1950 IH 2 ton rat rod

the frame will get cut off shorter in the rear when i figure where the rear wheels will sit. I will be using a 4 link setup. The front will be a straight axle with a rack steering. Big block chevy power with a 4L60 trans (though i havent rulled out a 6.5 diesel). The chop took longer than expected, 2 weeks, after all its my 1st.

the rear glass was chaneled downward so i wouldnt have to mess with the rear glass, the doors will have solid glass ( no wing glass). NOTE: the cab mounts were made from rear eldorado sub frame mounts, found 2 cars at salvage yard. I cut them off straight, positioned cab where I wanted it and welded tem to the frame, drilled my holes where they needed to be and the rest is history. ( a little more work then just drilling a hole)I've got a set of west coast mirrors i'm cutting down (the glass) so it will look close to the same size as the windows, I want 2 keep that 2 ton truck look.

Being that I'm building a 53 R, Im watching this closely. I recomend two things for you though. Outbackparts.com for all body parts IHC, and Michael Perry's book "truck, a love story" for a complete history of IHC and his take on building a 51 L series.

Love the chop. I got a 52 L120 I'd like to chop in the same way. What ya gonna do for windsheild, have it cut down or cut it yourself. I got a buddy of mine that cut down his own with a dremmel tool and a special cut off disc. Windsheild in mine is cracked so I will need a differant one anyway when I chop mine.

Nice start on a cool "Rig Rod". I have an International build going as well. Mine is a KB-6 and will be converted to 4x4. Keep the pictures coming....

gearhead, that is one nice cab, and i thought mine was nice. As 4 a windshield i been reading how to cut them down, it appears that sand blasting is the way to do it on a curved glass. hombre, that is one sweet truck, it was made to hotrod (or rat rod it), that black one is cool post sme more pics of it if u can.

Man thats a nice lookin cab you have there. Its nice to see a lot more of those binders being used. And I though mine was gonna be the only one, lol. The chop looks great!!

heres the chop in primer (finallllly) also heres a pic of the cab mounts front and rear, their off of the sub frame of a 95 Eldorado (2 different cars, off the rear of th sub frame) they worked perfect. on the front i placed them so the bolt hole would line up with the outer hole of the orignal body mount bracket drillrd up throgh the nut that is factory welded under the floor, then hole sawed a hole through the floor so i could tap the orignal 3/8 nut to 7/16 and put a nut on top of it. (yes i could have taken the orignal nut out, but it was factoty welded, and i didnt want to take a chance of messing up the bottom of th floor. Also the hole saw hole was only 7/8 round. the floors r to solid to be cutting up. The rear i just placed thm next to the frame and lined tem up next to the orignal mount suport ( or what they call a body mount which is a hard piece of rubber) then drilled my hole also hole sawed that hole on top and welded a piece of 5/8 pipe into the hole ( so when the mount as drawed tight it wont crush the beam. to get the height off the frame the same i put a 1 inch socket sideways between the frame and cab. just some food 4 thought.
