I thought I'd start my build thread and share some pics for you guys. 36 ford running a 303 olds tri carb, lasalle trans and a frankland quickchange. I traded a 78 shovelhead that was sitting around for the last 3 yrs. The PO gave me a load of extras all new wide whites, firestone cheaters, 53 olds guages, new drive shaft, the list goes on. I've zeed the frame 5" and am now chopping the top 5". I am having problems tacking the roof. There is very little rust but when I try to tack it burns thru. I"ve got a miller 140 set on the lowest setting with a 75/25 mix and .024 wire. I"m thinking of spot welding some backing metal to the inside of the posts to take up some of the heat. Even though it"s not rat heres a pic of my last project 56

Find some copper to hold against the back side of the steel while you weld. It acts as a heat sink and prevents the burn through.

Only a very short application of the welder then let go. Remember, It will only take several thousand spot welds to complete.

Nice project. Welcome.

I think I have my burn thru taken care of. I spot welded supports inside the posts using the cutoffs. Posts fit really tight over them. I am also thinking of spotwelding strips on the bottom sides of the roof to make a flange for the filler strip. Anyone see problems with that?

Heres a few pic of what's been done. Doors are done, top needs blocking and final prime. Made windshild hinge, and replaced upper window frame, fabbed up a cowl vent. Set a 54 olds guages and finishing dash. Mocked up bed. I was going to set it up fenderless but picked some up with running boards cheap so I think I'll run them. Also picked up some back seats from a King ranch PU.
