steering

I cut the frame horn off and did away with the Buick steering. I got a rack out of a 89 Thunder Bird and used outer tie rods from a Mitsubishi 3000 GT. It helps when you uncle works for Napa and you help a guy who owns a salvage yard. I would have a real hard time without the help of friends. After getting the rack put in I inflated the air ride to see if in all work fine.

I took my frame to the shop where I work. I fired the big 220 Welder up to burn in all the changes I made to the Buick frame. I reinforced the front spring pocket and cap the ends of frame. The plan is to build a sub frame for the radiator support that will bolt on. I reinforced the rear air bags also. I have took it all back apart so I can paint it So back to my shop we go. The last picture is what happens when you don't pay attention where you put you arm while welding. Did not take long for me to notice mistake. These last three post is what I've done in the last month and a half.

Good stuff. Make me think, more people need to make use of rack and pinion on fenderless S10 frame builds. It looks pretty straight forward and would solves so many problems.

Well I'm wire brushing my frame getting it ready for paint. We know what that's about. So I would like to show some the body modification I did over the last year . I had to get the rust repaired above the wheel. When I cut that away I found more rust. The wheel well was mess up so I repaired it with a couple of trailer fenders welded together. The bumper I found was off a 61 Dodge Dart. I liked the shape of it and thought it would look good molded into the quarter panel. I have not made up my mine if I will keep the Caddy lite. I like the look with everything, but the Caddy light has been done. And some people might say it is to new of a part to be a "true rod". Would like a little feed back here please.

great work, i like the caddy tail light in there. the rear fender lines fit that light well. or maybe get some to fit in the bumper if you dont like the caddy lights. but i like the caddy lights.

I like the bumper, but I think the lights are too tall and look forced. The squared off quarter doesn't really match the rest of the rounded car. Same with the sharp cornered lights. I'm thinking you can find better. Save them for another project.

Just picked up on your build, coming along nicely ! [cl I'm also using a G body front clip on my 34 Caddy, I've yet to put in the air bags, thanks for the pics - see more cutting and welding in my future. I used an Explorer rack on mine because it was shorter, to minimize toe in change as the suspension moves up and down. Have you checked yours to see if it changes ? Mine mostly toes in when raised to the max, mostly unaffected at normal ride height.

Kep up the good work ![P

It was a back up light on Dodge or it had a blockout plate if it did not have reverse lights. I'm building a custom back up light to fill the hole and found the right trim for it on E bay.

The rack I used is real close to the space between the two bolts on lower a arms so the tie rod moves with the a arms. At drive height I see no changes in toe in with wheel movement.

I've missed this build til now somehow..great work, I really like the tail lights and bumper..and that motor is amazing..

chipping away

Well got the frame painted and finished the axle and a arms today. Got the rear end put back in with the air ride. On to the front next chance I get. I did get my hands on some Wide White Walls for the front. I also got fakes for the rear. I hope to get my wheels painted sometime this week, but it will more than likely be next week. The heat has been unreal this year. By the end of the day I'm beat
