I currently working on a 52 Chevy truck rat. At this time I have the front cross member welded in and ready to fit the engine and tranny. My front suspension is a Heidts IFS and the power is a Lq4 6.0 with a T56 six speed.
good looking project truck, and i like the way you're building it- i'm also a curious bystander wanting to know more about using this newer power source...
Great choice for power; I'm using a 5.3 Gen III in my 48 Plymouth. These newer Chevy engines are worlds ahead of the old small block design in just about every aspect and just as cheap. I paid $500 for a 60,000 mile engine and it looked brand new inside. Great looking truck, I'll keep following your build.
I worked on the old 52 this weekend. I didn't get much accomplished but it was good to escape to garage for a few hours. I'm in the process of refitting the IFS.
Making a little more progress. I'm enjoying being out of the office for 2 weeks! I sourced a 70 Camaro 8.5" 10 bolt rear end. Plans are to install the truck arm/trailing arm suspension over the next week.
Thanks guys. I have been working on the old 52 every day for the past two weeks. I hope to have it under power this summer. I'm working on the cab sheet metal at this time, i.e. cab corners, floor pans, rocker panels, etc.
I am jealous , that will be a fast truck and a 6 speed manual also? I must be living wrong. Just kidding , I love the way you are headed with this build . Please keep us posted, I would love to ride in that bad boy when it is on the road.
Guys, I've been away for some time now. The project came to a abrupt standstill last winter. We found out my father and best friend had stage four large B cell lymphoma. It was a rough winter and spring for him an my family. Things turned out far better that expected. Dad is getting his strength back and has completed his chemo treatments. He is strong enough to kick around the garage with me. We started working on the old 52 yesterday. I attached a few photos of dad bolting on the newly rebuilt door hinges. I hope to post more positive pics in the near future. Thanks for following my build thread.
