71 porsche 914 owners

I'm looking at buying a 71 914 for $500 and was wondering about a couple things with it. The engine in it is a 1.7lt engine and its the same as the 13 window bus. I was wondering if I pull the engine and drop a 2.0lt. engine longblock in it, which would be the same as the 21 window buses would it still bolt right up to the old tranny or do I need a conversion adapter? The engine is rear mounted and the trans bolts on to it from there with rwd.

The 914 engine is the same as a 73 and later type 4 and 2 VW bus. It will fit into a older (pre 67)13 window bus with a few mods,not a direct swap. Check out www.shoptalksforum.com Thhey have a type 4 forum and info on the swap.

The 1700 and 2 liter motors are interchangeable.

I will second the STF suggestion. Lots of Type 4 info there.
