I'm laying out the upgrade of the front suspension on my '37 Roadmaster and I'm trying to use the steering column, spindles, and power steer box out of my donor '95 Roadmaster. The '95 has front steer spindles and the '37 is currently rear steer. The only place there is room for the '95 steer box is in front of the radiator in grill section. The radiator will have to be raised a couple of inches so the linkage can pass below it. I believe this will require the steering linkage to have three u-joints: to angle it down to the frame, turn it towards the front, and then correct the angle at the gearbox.
1) I read that the max angle is 30 deg for each joint. Is this correct?
2) Is there any limitation on the length of the linkages?
3) The center linkage that rides parallel to the frame will be the longest at 32". Is there a rule of thumb for how many bearing supports to use?
Thanks
