Hello again everyone!! Just relized I didn't start a build thread on my current project!!

Don't have any step-by-step photos of the build...sometimes I get so envolved I get on a fabricating kick and don't even think about pics!

Anyhow....here we go.....

The body is a mix of 29/30/31 Model "A" parts. It was originally a four door Briggs '30 body.

The frame is 2x3 .250" with a 6" front "Z" and a 18" rear kick.
6" chop
3" channel

Here is the first batch.... MORE TO FOLLOW SHORTLY

First pic shows the body and frame mated to each other.

2nd pic shows the top coming off

3rd shows 6" being removed from the pillars

4th & 5th show how the chop looks

Man! That's pretty dang strong. I really like the fordors for some reason I can't put a finger on...maybe the suicide rear doors.

I know I have said this in another thread, but love the look of the 4 door done like that. And your mock up of the paint layout is spot on in my opinion, looks great.

Got all the rust out and replaced with new metal...did some bondo work...mostly over my screw-ups! Don't worry...there are plenty of CHARACTER dings, waves, dents I purposly didn't fix!

Shot her with a few cans of red oxide primer today...and I love the color!!! I need to find some way of giving it a MATTE finish so it isn't so chalkboard like!!! If not...Satin Black above the beltline and DARK red below it.....but I really like this RED OXIDE!!!

Yep, looks really good. My Son sometimes says he wishes he hadn't cut up the Fordor he was building turning it into a rpu. It looked a lot like yours.

Don

Hey Don....I remember when I first picked up my Fordor project...I ran across your sons car and remember reading it was getting turned into a RPU...Was sad to see a Fordor really go under the knife...but....all in all...it was a choice that was ment to be!!!

I was initially going to do a RPU project...but I like to be a little different..When I came across my Fordor body while looking for a RPU body..I had to do the Fordor!

Could you just spray a matte clear over the primer? Maybe the paint experts could advise....

My "SCREW-UP/PROBLEM" is that I used RUSTOLEUM brand red oxide spray bomb primer....it is an oil based primer..Don't think there are any AUTOMOTIVE clears that would be compatable.

I was a little bored today and took a 4oz of RUSTOLEUM red oxide primer, 3oz of.....ready for this....MINWAX "SATIN" EXTERIOR UV PROTECTANT POLYURATHANE!! It is also OIL BASED so I figured WHY NOT!!!! I added an Ounce of Acetone the thin it out a bit for the gun...mixed it up, and shot it on a scrap piece of fender...Just waiting to see if it ever dries and we'll see what it looks like!

Not saying it is going to work...but wanted to at least try it!

I've used Minwax gloss over Tremclad on a friends race car. It gave a good shine and has held up for over three years so far, except of course where it has been rubbed by other cars, guard rails etc.

Should work just fine for you. Just don't over do it with the acetone or you will end up wit a lot of runs.

PAINTED!

Got the ol' HOTROD painted today!!!

It came out a little more shiny than I wanted...but not to bad!!

Can't complain...the paint cost me a whopping $15.00!!!

RUSTOLEUM SUNRISE RED GLOSS mixed with FLAT BLACK..gave me a DARK BURGUNDY type color. Finish ended up being a SEMI-GLOSS....really looks like a 60's era paint job that is fading away...kinda like it!!

Paint was on CLEARANCE at my local Wally World!!! Lots of cans (quart size) got severly dented (not leaking) and were selling them for $5.00 Each!! SO....one qt of flat black, on qt of Sunrise Red, amd one quart of SATIN BLACK that I sprayed the frame and firewall with.

PAINT $15.00
HARDNER $13.00
ACETONE $ 6.00
------------------------
TOTAL $34.00!!
