Schankweiler's Drive In is just north of Allentown, PA and is one of the oldest (still in operation) in the country. That one is about 20 miles south from where I live. Becky's Drive In is in Cherryville, PA is about 15 miles east (Becky's had many years as the local porno palace in the 70's and 80's, but is back to family fare these days)....AND Mahoning Valley Drive In is about 2 miles down the road

Drive Inn

We have 1 about 30 miles away in Christiansburg Va. ( STARLIGHT ) I started taking my kids there about 12 years ago to let them see how it was when I was growing up, we always have fun on those weekend nights. now the prices are 4.00 for adults and 2.00 for kids over 10, popcorn in the box is 1.00 there prices are great, we stop and get pizza on the way and have a good time, normaly spend more on the pizza than the drive inn, we used to have about 5 here in town, when I was young we would spend at least 1 night at the drive inn they use to have radio nights, a car load of people for what ever the station # was like .92 cent night, and .99 cent night, those were the days of fun and inocence, cold nights and steamy windows.

You kidding ??!! I live in Texas - we have everything here - and it's bigger to boot. Got one of them drive-in's about 15 minutes from mi casa.

I posted a Question earlier today about the possiblity of a Rat Rod Show at the Raleigh Road Theater though there hasn't been many Views of it yet and I don't know if anyone who could make it a reality has seen it yet.

( parental disgression advised)
Got one on the rez up the road a'piece :D Haven't been there in years.
Good memories of drive-ins from the bad 'ol days as a kid when drinkin' and driving was still legal. We used to round up lawn chairs and throw them over the fence, then stake out a space and wait for the one guy who paid with the car and the beer to make it in. Just leave the chairs behind when we left.
Or just park on the hill outside the fence and turn up the speakers on the
first two or three rows. Never forget Mad, Mad World at the drive-in, funny funny movie. :)

:( Our last one just closed to make room for the new development..Like we need another!!! Had a lot of good times at the area drive-ins.... all of em gone now....very sad......CR

We have one in Maquoketa - "61 Drive In" about 30 minutes away. There's talk about one being built in Davenport.....we'll see.

There are a few around yet, two that are 35-40 min. away. Took the grandkids, their friend and a nephew, all under 7 years old, to see Kung Fu Panda. I would have to say that the movie was a real hit and funny to little kids. I got a big charge out of watching them.:D Sniper

Closest one to me is Luverne, MN. About 30 minutes away $5 at least in 2004. Took my wife there once before we were married...never did see any of the movie:D Still have the ticket in the strap of the sun visor. AHHH memories...

Drive-In

We have one just a stone's throw from where I live, called the SkyVu...been operating since the '50s. The only thing that's changed is they now broadcast the sound over the radio instead of through the old window speakers, but they still have the speaker stands there for looks. The local car clubs have cruise nights there in the summer, and if you drive a classic or hotrod, each person in your car gets $2 off admission price.

Here's the website:

In Maryland

There is one near Baltimore MD that has been in continuous operation for 52 years! Bengies is a lot of fun - we go at least once a year - saw Kung Fu Panda there, too. They also like old cars - on Sundays, the driver of a classic-registered car gets in free.

The other remaining one in MD closed in 2005. There used to be drive-ins all over the place here in Maryland - my wife frequented them in high school back in the early 80s.

Fotos!

Ok... guess I'm gonna have to pull out some of my drive-in fotos! They actually reopened one here in H-town & it's really quite popular! My Dad loved to go to the drive in every Friday nite & we went as teenagers too & hid in the truck to sneek in free!!! They used to show "The Birth of Triplets" every now & then to discourage teen pregnancy... lot o good it did... but that show was pretty gross!!! :D
