I have a M ll front end on my 46 chevy truck. Its the old type with the strut that goes back to the frame.

The control arms are hacked up and I want to replace them.

I came across a set of new tubular control arms and alden coilover shocks, and I bought them (good deal, couldnt pass it up)

The problem is they are for the type of M ll that doesnt use the strut. I am going to have to remodel the lower control arm pivot points on the frame to except the new ones.

I have not yet recieved the new ones, they are in the mail.

Does anyone have any experience in making this swap?
Is it as straight forward as I think its gonna be?

Thanks

I've seen pics on the HAMB,detailing that option on MII crossmembers.

Some are kind of flimsy, a bit of a cobbled afterthought,
and there have been crossmember failures.

Search for posts by El Polacko, he has fixed several of these,
and he knows his stuff.

Thanks Ian,
My cross member is real solid and I fixed the mounts for the struts a couple years ago when they broke 1 day after I bought the truck.

Its just time for an upgrade. I never really finished working this part of the truck over, the rest is solid, but the front end is a little weak. Time to fix that.

Pay attention to the lower a-arm mount,
where it extends behind the cross member.

I don't remember exactly how El Polacko fixed them,
but it was very solid.

Learning from other peoples mistakes
is much better than making your own.:D

Too bad some of the aftermarket suppliers
don't learn from their mistakes.

Excellent,

they have a great selection and decent prices.

I've done it several times Maddog by using a gusseted spacer on the back side of the cross member and longer lower control arm bolts. I've never had any strength problems, even on a car that was in an accident where one of the front wheels took a direct frontal hit.
