body removal

Got to lift the body up on my model a tudor. Taking the chassis down to the dmv for a vin check. While it's off i will check it over and make it purdy. Any tricks for doing this probably singlehandedly outside? Thanks

If you have access to a Gantry and some good straps it will be that easy.If not get 4 jack stands 2 either long pipes or tubular steel.Unbolt,Jack up body enough to get one in front and one in back,Then get your jackstands to the height that will clear the frame and roll her out.Or if you have some buddies with good backs you could do it like this.

I have done it with blocks, bottle jacks, and boards, until I got my fork lift.

We couldn't live without our gantry. Dan built it after I injured my left arm lifting the corner of my '39 Dodge cab. I rigged it with two Harbor Freight electric winches, so it can lift 880 lbs, but I know we have had more than that on it. Just the other night we had his whole body and frame hanging from it.

I have also seen people use their engine lifts with some straps through the windows to lift coupes and sedans. But you have to be careful not to buckle something when you do that. Spread the load as much as you can.

If scrap angle iron and tubing could still be found laying around vacant lots
like it used to be i would sure go for a folding gantry. This old body is rusty
and weak (the car) and i would much rather lift it from above thru the windows.
