I stopped off at a small hot rod show at a local transmission shop in san antonio, and i was walking around looking at hot rods and dwayne was there. He is a pretty nice guy in person. Shorter than i would think. He actually got a call from Boyd and sent him to voice mail while i was talking to him...i thought that was funny.. Thats where Boyd and Co. gets there trannys and he came down to make an appearance, so i shot a photo of him and me..

He comes off as a jerk on the show, but I know they feed them direction and try to build plot. Reality TV is someone elses reality.

It's sort of wierd running into someone famous when you don't expect it. We were walking around in the Daytona Turkey Run swap meet last year when my son spotted Billy Lane of Choppers Inc. My son wanted a photo with Billy, Billy obliged.

Their shop is right around the corner from me and I have been there many times.
Dwayne has let me wander the shop area unescorted, taking photos of what ever I want.
He actually is a nice guy.
They usually have a lot of very interesting projects going on that you never see unless you are in the shop. Lots of cool ideas, just need to adjust them accordingly for my build.
I have never been there on a shooting day, but I have never seen any of the B.S. that you see on TV.
Just guys doing what they do best.
A random stop at Boyd's one afternoon is what got me back into rods after many years away.
A consignment track roadster is what rekindled the urge, but not worth $18,000.00 and that was 5 years ago.
And the high dollar show room stuff doesn't do a thing for me.
But it did reawaken the urge..... '22

Dwayne!

Rusty,
That's incredible he was down here in da Lone Star state. I'd hate to think anyones existence would be like that show!!!

Once a month, they have an open house at Boyd's. I went there once and was suprised at how small the shop was. The day I went, I took the Biscayne. 2 other rods showed up. Most drove their daily drivers.

Funny, almost all the builds you saw on the show were still in the shop.

Yeah... I bet!!! On the show they're always throwin' those cars together for some impending car show & I'm sure the owner who was payin' those BIG bucks wants them finished up properly... for his kinda $$$ I'd want that car *perfect*!!!

billy lane

my friends actually bumped into Billy at the buffalo chip at Sturgis. They hung out for the better part of a hour. They spoke very highly of him, said he was one of the most down to earth people he has met.

Boyd cars don't seem to get big bucks at the Barrett Jackson auctions.
