Just came over the wire, whatever the hell that is, Harley Chief Executive Keith Wandell, to make a decision in the next 2 month's as to decide if Harley closes and moves the engine plant. Reportedly looking into several other states, but not commenting on which ones. I would bet East of the Mississippi, and something Southern. Just my quess, southern for lower operating cost, and closer to Transyl, I mean Pennsylvania to cut cost's to mate the engines up with the chassis factory. Who ever quesses right, gets to buy me a new Fatboy:rolleyes:[cl

Sure would love to see Florida get it. We have very little manufacturing down here and so many people looking for work. We are a right to work State, have few taxes, and the State is willing to give financial incentives to attract companies.

Why companies over look Florida escapes me. We have ports, good transportation and roads, and few down days because of bad weather. Oh, there is that little hurricane thing every so often, but even that isn't all it's cracked up to be on the large scale of things.

Don

Man you guy's nailed that one!!, Don check out the latest thread in the parts section on the 12 port Wayne complete set up, I'll say it again PURE PORN!!, and the hurricanes, you know yourself, for 99.9% of them, if your inland far enough, not to worry. Imagine a mega square foot manufacturing plant, built to modern code specs, it's not going nowhere during a hurricane. Funny, I thought we should BOTH be in the shop making sparks right about now.

There was a place about 10 miles from here (Spearfish, S.D.) that was doing all of Harleys trikes, employed a 100 or so. June 1 that romance was ended and Harley sent semis to haul off the remaining inventory.

So the guy that made over $6 Million last year, wants concessions
from the workers that make less than 1% of what he does.

"Times are tough, so everyone has to cut back, so I can have more."

As long as they keep it in the states, an awful lot of the parts are being made in Mexico now compared to 20 years ago. Their slogon should read assemebled in America, not made in America! I about lost it when I bought a "Harley Davidson" chrome tail light cover for my Street Glide and it was made of plastic right out of China. WTF!!!! They may have cut cost but didn't pass the saving on to their customers.

As a Floridian, my vote and Don's make two. Everyone has great points, I am guessing Kentucky, Arkansas, or South Carolina. Like my Speedway wire harness, the new Harley's brochure might read..." Engineered in America- Made in C { i'lcut off my fingers before I finish that statement}

Well I'll throw in another vote for Florida. I'm sure the three of us will tip the scales in favor of this move. I think Kentucky is probably more realistic though.

Thanks Gastrick, somehow I knew you would be on board for this one. Dont want anyone to think I am insensitive to the damages of hurricanes, as we lost a good portion of our home in 2003. Worse than the storm of course was the insurance company. Good news is, the FOS/POS insurance adjuster, last I heard is no longer working for the company. The headquarters sided with me and my family, he shouldn't have used scare tactics when he came to our home.[cl
