Most are the railroad bridge over Hwy 61 in downtown Davenport. The actual height is 11'8", but it is right at the bottom of a hill so it is deceiving.

The others are the Rock Island Arsenal Government Bridge over the Mississippi. Train on top, cars underneath. It is only 11'!

Sometimes ya gotta wonder....

When I was in Miss. after Katrina, we had a truck hit a bridge, bad. It was the guy I was working for. He had a driver moving equipment and he forgot to put the boom down on a big JD excavator, hit a concrete bridge over the interstate doing over 60 and did about 7 million damage to the bridge.

We just had a good one here a couple of days ago. A pickup truck lost control on I-70, just before an overpass. He skidded off the road, and went up the side hill of the overpass, jumping straight up, but hooking the guard rail, leveling out the truck. It landed on the overpass, on all four wheels. Driver went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A friend of mine used to drive a car carrier. He told me that a lot of bridges only cleared the tops of the cars he was carrying by only a few inches. When the roads were re-blacktopped they didn't always change the height signs in time.....yes a few convertibles were made!:D
