I took a piece of 5" exhaust pipe and cut it to 12 inches, took cardboard and built an intake template and built it around a 6" filter. Do to the difference in size between my carb throat and the pipe, i split the pipe down the center and welded in a new piece of metal so i could hit my 5 1/8 inch carb opening.

In the first pics you can see the prefitment. I took it back apart and then cut the pipe to 6 1/4", that way once i build the intake you should be able to see it from the inside of the cab......Hopefully i'll catch allot of fly's.

I also tossed in a picture of the floor plate i built to go around the opening in my floor pan.

That is pretty sweet dude. I started building an intake for mine from an old motorcycle gas tank. I almost had it done then I came up with another idea for it. I wanted to incorporate a little styling I put on my jeep. I cut some jaws out of sheet metal and am putting those on the front. For a little more flare, I have a vacuum lever that I am going to try and hook to the top jaw. That way when the motor revs up, it pulls the jaws up....... Thought it would be interesting.

I've thought about doing something like that and using part of the inner tank from a hot water heater as the scoop..some of them have decent looking curves..

Yours looks great!

Thanks guys, i think it is going to be kewl when i am done with it.......I have has some negative responses to the set up as well, but to heck with them. I am all about doing things on rat rods that are different and not your everyday run of the mill rod. Actually feel sorry for some that can't see the creativity in allot of the stuff we build.

Alright, i made a change to the height......After sitting and looking at the intake stack, it was just to tall. here are some pics of the new height.

No hood and no fenders........I have a grill shell off of a 30's ford i am going to put on the front, but i need to redo my radiator set up and put on an electric fan. With the electric fan i should gain about 5 inches of room on the front end for the grill shell.

Heres one I had took a old ford hub cap fit over air cleaner 8" tall
didn't last long found a old cal custom liked much better
