i dont see how its a 2 speed rear with nothing going to it other than some brake lines. the switch/ lever goes right into the tranny on the top side like the shifter does.
 
A 2 speed rear end of that era would have had a solid rod that went to the rear end to shift the rear... I dont think they did any vacuum shift units in that era.. but i could be wrong

Not that having a two speed rear end would do you any good... the gearing is just too low... its too low in the single speed axles as well... i use to have a sheet that showed the ratios on my computer.. i will see if i can find it

I just recently tore apart the old rear end to see how it functioned.. some really cool stuff going on in there

Im not 100% sure but I believe that the little lever on the shifter was a reverse lock out.. dont know for sure cause mine was stuck in gear so i couldnt play with it
