New from Sactown

Hey everyone! finally got an old school (to me) and looking to start playing with it and thought I would find some people who already have some experience with them, have different ideas and like to meet new people, so here I am. Just picked up a '48 Buick Super 8, I havent started breaking it down yet, but besides a different tranny I think it that still has 98% percent of the OEM stuff on it!! I havent decided where I wanna go with it yet but just getting one is half the battle. Heres a few quick pix I shot.

@old iron, has original straight 8 in it but it hasnt been run since '81, and the wiring is pretty shot...not to mention all the rat crap in it lol but I dont think it would take much to get it running again.

@scull, ya was originally in Oregon but slowly made its way down. Good for me!

Welcome to RRR! Wow! That looks solid!! Any rust out on the rockers or at the backs of the front fenders? Has it got the radio? Those side open hoods are nice - I smack my head on the front corner of mine all the time - PITA.

I have been working on old cars since around 1960. My more recent cars were 1932 chevy, 1935 Glen Prey speedster, 1949 ford convt. I have two grandkids, Megan drives a 76 vette and John drives a 51 chevy fastback and is working on a 51 chevy ratrod , chopped, boxed frame, running 56 DeSoto hemi 4 speed. John is training with Gene Winfield in CA. He has met many of the greats in the custom car world. George Barris, Bo Huff, Dick Jackson and many others. John and I are both members of the Bayside Cruisers in Fairhaven NY. Johns dad still has a 51 chevy carryall, model a woody, 70 chevy pickup and a 62 ford ranchero. If I can figure out how, I will post some pics.

@Sam_Fear, from what I had time to look at, the rockers are ok, the inside of the fenders didnt seem to be to bad. This thing looks to have all the little knobs, levers, everything, it even has the original "grab rope" that goes across the back of the front seats!! the healiner that WAS there is gone and the door panel uphosltery is shot. First thing I'll do is start pulling it apart and see if theres any major cancer, the only thing I think is maybe the floor board has some. First off I need a place to work on it but in the mean time Ima ask a hundred different questions.

This is the place for questions. We have a huge amount of experience available to all members. Everybody is willing to help and no question is dumb. We all started somewhere. The Buick would be great with the straight 8 and it will haul that big machine down the road just fine. Put a wiring kit into it and maybe change to a 12 volt system. Go through the brakes and drive the wheels off of it. The paint and upholstery can come along later. Driving them keeps the blood flowing (The cars and yours). Keep us posted on your progress.
