My dad & mom gave me the family car, a '57 Chevy in 1973, when I turned 16. I drove the car to high school and then bought a '40 Chevy coupe with a '57 283 and Muncie 4 speed. I have kept the '57 all these 45 years.
The reason I never rebuilt it is it was a four-door. I am now fixing that problem by converting it to a two-door. I have the passenger side worked out, but not finished. I moved the center post back 6 inches and am using the old back door skin to create the new quarter panel. I too two four-door front doors and cut them down the middle, leaving the extra 6 inches on the donor door. So far I am happy with the progress. The 150 side moldings will be welded together where the gap was for the no longer present back door and polished to work on the now two-door configuration. The car is getting a straight front axle too.
The old '57 will be like I wanted it to be in 1973 and it only took me 45 years to do it!
