just starting out on a petrol tank in stainless for my 38 pu.any tips what are the pitfalls.have you pics of your tanks and how you mounted it.am mounting it behind axle under the bed thanx nunattax

If your making it from scratch, you may want to put slosh baffles and a drain plug in it. I didnt make mine but did mount it in back but between the frame and driveshaft.

I've built 6 or 7 tanks and have learned a couple thing along the way. Two or them were mounted with flanges that bolted to the frame - bad idea, they both cracked, maybe my welding, but that was a sign to me to abandon that mounting style. Every other tank I've made or used, I've mounted with straps and no problems.
Use a vent to the carb or air cleaner or better yet, to a OEM style charcoal cannister so you won't have it bubbling over on a hot day.
I always weld in a couple baffles to keep the sloshing down so your fuel sender isn't going nuts bouncing around.
I also run the pickup tube in from the top and tack it to the bottom of the tank so it doesn't move around (done before welding the tank ends on) and use an external filter.
As a final test, I pour some Varsol in it and pressurize the tank and roll it around to look for leaks.

First 2 (gold tank) are one of the tanks I flange mounted. Had it out a couple times after it was on the road to fix cracks by the flanges, I think the weight of the fuel made it flex.
Second 2 are the last one I made, a little hard to see with everything in black . I used a filler tube and cap from an S10 pickup, mounted with straps underneath, it held 80 litres (21 US gal.)

I too am using a 15 1/2 gallon keg. I took a couple of pic's so you could see how it is mounted and the external gas sight tude. There's a shut off on the bottom.
Sorry about the blurry pic of the bottom but hope these may help you.
