Just my thought,we used them for a long time in my shop for all kinds of things hoods trunks etc.The rod I am building has a tilt bed it's not very big but it's heavy and I used the rods off a c4 corvette rear glass, they were short so they fit where I needed them and lift my bed with no prob.Google hatch strut length and pressure chart and you will find all you need.Weight your trunk,if it's 30 lbs use two 30 lb struts 40 two 40's and so on.

I used them, for the trunk lid on my Graham project. I had an old 99 Intrepid that was in the yard waiting to go to scrap (surprised?) It had the shortest little cylinders I'd ever seen - and they worked perfectly. Both ends mount on little fixed balls, so you might be at a wreckers finding them....

Good luck.

I used two on my 65 Goat. I had to use two 70# to hold it up.
I did however mount them on the hinge, real close to the pivot point.
The farther away from the hinge the less leverage they have on them.
