My brother in law, his 11 year old son and I took our two 65+ year old rigs down to the salt flats from the Spokane WA area (1500+ mile round trip). We never even opened the tool box. We had to keep them under 65 mph the whole way to get approx 10 mpg in mine and 13 in his. His rig is a 47 International with a Chev 406 and mine is a 46 Dodge on a motor home chassis with a 440 with a dual 4 tunnel ram. The road from Boise Id to Wendover sucks!! It's approx 350 miles with maybe 6 turns and three jillion sage brush plants and that's it!

that is great for you guys and I'm sure the boy enjoyed every minute of it.
better to have tools and not need them then to not have tools and need them

Great trip, nice photo's
been down that road before, south out of Jackpot there was a house on the left bout 20 miles down, then not much other excitement.

got admit it would be a blast, & glad that anyone that wants to go, can find the chance to get there...

... my problem is its SALT

I live in MN, I know how destructive salt can be... seeing the video of how wet the salt was, made my truck start rusting, while it was sitting in the driveway, just thinking about it... as a very exprienced mud bogger, I know how "stuff" gets into every little box section, that can never be fully washed out...

I understand the drive fast thing, & the bucket list thing... but just don't know if I could live with the rust thing... hmmm... maybe in a rental:D

Last time I went I drove a toyota. I REALLY want to drive a rod out there.

get together with jrmcolorado. My wife and I are headed out there next year in the 50 GMC. you can hook up with us and travel out there in your flat bed. [cl
