tow truck?

trying to get a 67 1ton throne in on a quad sale, it has a pto off trans anyboody know what drove the boom on the old style trucks and how big would pto have to be if thats how they worked? it would be well down the road but i see a mean shop truck, 67 was the last year the bodys set down on frame in 1 tons, well he says but it does look pretty low for 1 ton..

the winches were often bidirectional, as well as some pto's being bidirectional, i have seen and built wreckers using a 3spd transmission for the for/rev of the winch, hope this gives you some ideas.
