Every now and then, someone asks if there is a way to step down the voltage so the original 6 volt gauges can be used. Generally it's just the fuel gauge that needs it, but sometimes the temp is electric also. Resistor wire wrapped around a porcelain body is one style of resistor that will work. But....they develop a lot of heat, enough that it can cause a lot of other problems. I came across an adjustable resistor that can do the job for less than $2 and can handle up to 3 amp. www.icstation.com has them and a lot more of the small nic-nacs that can be used in the automotive world.
