hi everyone

i am brand new to this and have a 53 dodge pickup that needs all new drums.

if i could find new disc conversion that would be cool too. are any brake drums interchangeable?

and lastly would it just make more sense to use newer axles?

thanks everyone

When I had my 1950 Dodge 1/2 ton I re-did all of the brakes.
I was able to find parts at Roberts Motor Parts on the web. I can't remember if they had drums or not tho'.

Eventually I ended up converting the front brakes to disc from a company called AAJ Brakes online. It was pretty easy to do but did require very minor welding.

For the rear I wanted to get rid of the poor factory brakes and towing gears. I solved both problems by installing a 9" Ford axle from a 1967-72 F100 truck. It was also pretty easy but required modifyling the driveshaft and welding on some new leaf spring perches.

Just some things to consider...

Jay
