This is the last car, 66 Mustang body, and year I raced..1977. Found an old album with various 'toys' I've had over the years. Looking at some of the contraptions I built, I have to wonder, "What was I thinking?'

Yup, used to have that dirt needle stuck in my arm too for 3 or 4 years. IMCA or USRA Hobby Stocks mainly. Started with a '75 Malibu, then a '80 Malibu. Good times, very good times.

Here's the famous "Little Green 10 Car".

my old dwarf cars

I miss racing but don't miss pounding out the nerf bars, oh hell it was fun, would still be racing if they kept paying out instead of switching to trophys only

I myself never did get behind the wheel in any race but I was a crew chief on a legend car team for about 5 or 6 years and also helped crew for a local stock car driver in his sportsman type car. I also did all the sheet metal work in his car and won 1st place at the 2006 world of wheels for Best Interior-Street machine Comp.

I raced asphalt street stocks and then late models for a few years. I gotta dig those pics out and get them scanned so I can post them....I'll get right on that....tomorrow.....maybe :D

How do you get that "dirt needle" out of your arm? I cannot seem to do it!

I was determined to quit already, sold my car, ended up driving bro-in-laws car the next season.:(

My recipe ultimately went like this: Find a hot young "gifted" blonde;), bring to boil, add two boys about a year apart. At the same time start a major house renovation that swallows up all of your time, money and energy. The downer is that four years later I still haven't been able to dedicate any time back to working in the shop. But, my day is coming....patience!

And, if all that fails, try the patch!:D

Been racing for 10 years now, every thing from dwarfs, minis, stockcars to modifieds. going back down to dwarfs now, just seamed to have more fun in them. My 13 year old son is even in a mini now and plan to put him in a dwarf next year.
Racer93, we pretty much run for trophies also. at the end of the season we get a check for how many races we ran and its split evenly if you finished first or last. seams to work for our group our #s are growing and we are having fun.

Talk about an adrenalin addiction!! I pretty much kicked it 10 years ago, but I still feel it sometimes on Cool friday nights. Jut hobby class cars--nothing big.

The starts were the thing. 20 cars, 10 rows of 2, Rolling down the back stretch, bumpin and nuddgin. Watching the flagman in the tower, across the infield out of the corner of your eye--waiting for him to raise the sticks...

Halfway through the corner he twitches the green and the whole world explodes! 20 cars running down the straight-full bore-bumper to bumper-3 wide-70 MPH into the 1st corner.. Ahh--Man thats livin!!

The rest was just tryin to survive..

The little things too--the smell of alky burners--the sweet smooth sound of a REAL motor at full tilt. Rolling back into the pits after the last feature--wasted-pulling up on the trailer and killin it and just sitting--listening to the next race start--hearing the tinking and poping as the car cools..

Lets sell these toys and go racin..

Oh, PA41, you described it so vividly I could almost smell the fuel in my computer room. I just wish I could've closed my eyes while I was reading it so I could picture a little better the good times and places the races brought to me. That was good , Thanx![cl

Oh yea the racin bug, ya gotta love it. I raced from 1994 to 2006, started with enduro cars, hobby stocks and some hornet racin. I have drove a modified and stock car that a couple buddies own. I got outta it cuz it just cost too darn much and I wanted to finish my model A project of 20 plus yrs. I just wanted to do some of the projects that I've always wanted to finish and spend time with my family. Moronthethrottle and I built our own cars and a total of about 8 cars in 5 yrs for us and other people. I still help a couple guys part time cuz I miss the atmosphere of the track but the work and expense I'm glad to be away from. I always used to say to myself, while strapped in before a race, "I got the best seat in the house tonite". On the track was always better than being in the "cheap seats" as we called em. Anyway, I could talk racin all nite. Here are some pics of racecars past. The last one, blue 10 car, was our last car. Moron and I shared expense and seat time in that one and it was the best car I ever drove, enjoy!

Man where to start. Right on with the detail on before and after the race. You can also add the smell of the clutch and rubber or clay when you shut her down. Raced for 12 plus years from bomber rookie latemodel and nlms dirt. Dont miss the crashes though. Tore one in half at 140t mph. Last one the wife saw. said she wasnt going to watch me kill myself.Daughter came along and worried too much in the car. That is what inspired my theme. Spent a many of nights laying in bed and racing each lap in my head, ears ringing and all that. Will get some pics for ya. Thanks for the thread.

Here is a few of my 358 dirt modifeds
