[SI am at the point in my build where I am ready to install the windshield. Trouble being- I dont have one!!! (Big Problem) I would like to know if there is somewhere in the mid-west(closer to Wisconsin the better)that I can get a piece of windshield glass cut to my dimensions..flat glass, 13 3/4" X 53 3/4", or clear acrylic(approx 1/2" thick)...I have the weather seal and butyl polymers that I need to set it into place, but NO glass. I have fabricated [;)the frame and mounts and would really hate to have to change it all for a "conforming" windshield. Thanks guys, this site ROCKS!!!

windshield

you could try a glass shop that repair windows in houses and businesses. I had a windshield for my payloader made at one. it was 1/4 inch laminated flat glass. good luck.

pretty sure any door (like the doors at schools and offices) or window and glass company ... even hardware stores (lowes even) have acrylic and generally cut it there for you

Any glass shop can cut safety glass for you. Don't bother with acrylic - it scratches easily, is unsafe and also illegal for a windshield in a lot of places. Just call your local glass shop. They will do it for you or point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Thanks guys, I tried the glass shops locally and the reputable ones dont do flat glass, I did contact a joint I found on google but after getting a quote from them of $175.00 plus shipping realized they were in California...I gotta think I should be able to find something...maybe I'll call a local bus company and see who they deal with...
B.E.D.--Thanks for the tip on the acrylic, never really thought of the legality of it, but, I did figure that 1/2" ought be thick enuf...I'll stick with the true glass option.

it will scratch eventually but its plenty safe --- legality may be a different issue -- lol
dont jeeps have flat glass and buses (you said) -

What kind of glass shop doesn't do flat glass? Are you talking about "automotive" type places? If so forget it. What you need is a plain old glass shop - the kind that does windows, tables, mirrors and the like. Take them your template and tell them you need it cut in laminated safety glass. Easy...

Flat glass is all that the ones around here will do..

Safety glass, mirrors, all kinds of flat, but won't try to cut a curved glass....
:( sounds a bit strange they don't do flat glass..[S

Klien-Dikert told me they dont do that kind of work, Auto glass specialists told me the same...I didnt think that a plain 'ol glass shop would have laminated safety glass...I'll look into that. I dont need any radius' cut in it...just a plain 'ol rectangle. Thanks again guys!

Like I said - forget automotive places. They exist only to glue in whatever is handed to them and collect insurance dollars. You might as well ask the moron behind the counter at Autozone to do it. I repeat - GLASS SHOP - that is their business. Take the template or your measurements there and tell them you want laminated safety glass. Done deal...

go to the junk yard, find a flat windshield that is big enough, and cut it yourself. search youtube for how to cut glass. it is hard to believe you can't find new laminate glass somewhere.

Yep the auto glass shops are R&R anymore.
plain ole glass shop done my 40 and even V-butted it :)
1/2 " is awful thick on acrylic but, any thinner is dangerous.
Had one shatter and come out of mine at 70 damn near took my head off so, no more plastic for me!!!!!!!

I had the local glass shop do all of the windows in my model A sedan. Safety glass for windsheild and tempered for the sides and door glass. Got all 5 windows for around a $125-135 seems like.

ALRIGHT!!!! I found a place VERY locally(a few miles from the house) that will do a 1/4" flat laminate safety glass!!! They never asked what it for but can do it in less than 48 hours...and cheap...$60.00 for the piece I need...WOOOHOOO!!! Thanks guys for all your help, it paid off!!! I can't believe I didn't figure this out...musta been a brain fart.
