Im bidding on a pair of 19" model A tires on da'bay. Treads good on both, and they are fairly new. However one of them has a vulcanized patch in the side wall. If i were to tube it would it be safe? I plan on tubing both anyway because my rims are pitted.

Side wall repairs on tires are a big NO NO.I have never seen any shop repair a side wall on a tire.

I personally would not buy them. You are risking your life and any others with you or around you if you run that tire on the road. That is just plainly not safe.

I just don't like running used or old tires. Rubber degrades just from time, and with so many sources of new ones, like Coker, it just makes good sense to start with ones you know are safe.

I'd pass.

You can get brand new Bedford 19" tires from Lucas for $65 each. I hope your life is worth more than that. Their site is here -

Also make REALLY sure those 19" wires are not pitted too deeply and they are straight before using them. You will be putting them under a lot more load and stress than they were ever designed for, especially in cornering. A small defect can cause a big disaster...

Thanks for pointing me in this direction. The Bedford has the exact look im going for. Why so cheap?

Because they are a basic replacement Model A tire at a fair price. I have used them myself and no problems whatsoever. I shop a lot through Lucas because they carry a lot of different and neat old brands, plus their prices beat Coker. They are a small operation run by some good folks, so I give them a nod whenever I can...
