Axle move
Got driveshaft made, axle back in, brakes bled, rear tank back in, check tonite on how much BFH mod the midship tank will need to clear axle tube. 1 man fuel tank install tool.
Just moved my axle forward 13" and will have to go with shorter shocks due to mount placement. How do you figure the shock size from the mounting points? Any ideas? Thanks for the help!
And while you're spending $$ get the right residual valve for rear discs. 2PSI I believe. That car is way too nice to bang up for lack of brakes, but I know how you feel about wanting to cruise it around! I had a 2 gal fuel tank strapped to the radiator support to "test drive" my rat with...
you may have to drill the m/c cap and put in a valve stem, use bicycle pump to force fluid through. worked on an old beetle, except mechanic genius friend didn't adjust shoes, so still no brakes.
4x4 and low? Cake and eat it too?
The problem I'd see with a way low [I]functional[I] 4x4 Rat is the front diff and driveshaft. You'd either have to box a pretty good sized rectangle in the crossmember(s) to allow for clearance of the shaft due to suspension flex, or raise a divorced t-case...
Depends on price to me, and always have liked the way a F-250 handles.
Muffler off, spring hangers moved.
Rear is now bolted back in, keg awaits some other load to support haphazardly:cool:
How about post that in the Car Shows Forum? I had no idea about this show until your post. I believe I can make it up for Friday, if I don't wreck again - pic en route to Cherokee Rod Run
Dana 44?
Does your friend have a Scout II you could source the axles from? After '72 they have 44's front and rear, and the V8's had tall gears that would help keep your highway rpms down - Binder engines redline really low ;)
Kinda agree here. There is one locally that runs the whole front clip from a compact car with the seat in front of the bumper and an old metric cruiser handlebar/front frame. Looks worse than it sounds. Have also seen the T-bucket chopper and it wasn't a good looking trike. You'll really...
no worries on going 1 piece
Prob have a C-4, not sure about a 302/C6 combo. I used a '76 F-250 drivetrain in a Dodge D-50 chassis. The Dodge had a 2 piece w carrier bearing, the F-250 (LB btw) had a single driveshaft. I had to have the ford shaft cut down and have been running it for a year...
Tow rig it is, seems my towing needs have exceeded the Colorado's capabilities.
Safety - I agree, in principal anyway. Something about Rats makes me want to press my luck
