its about that time were i start a build tread for my car. i picked it up couple months ago after lookin for almost a year. its a 1929 desoto Model K 2 door sedan. it sits on a custom built frame, 57 t-bird rear, was already chopped when i got it, came with a 350/350. the big part missing was a front end, so i found what i was told to be a 39 chevy chassis with a 4" drop axle and 9" rear. now im looking for a motor to suit this car. thinking a bb mopar or early hemi

got a little bit of work done. squared up the body and welded in bracing. had to cut the cowl off to replace the wood with steel. i ran out of steel tho. im thinkin another 50 feet of 1x1 and 10 feet of 2x1 1/2

i also got the old rear out. it was only 53 drum to drum, and i needed 57.5. well the chassis i bought had a ford 9in that was 57.5 drum to drum.

workin on finding a motor now. it came with a 350/350, but i have my heart set on early HEMI !!!!!! i can get a 460/c6 from a mark 3 linicon or a 440/727 froma motorhome

got alot done the last 2 days. i didnt want any wood in the car, so i have to re make the cowl. wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. i squared and leveled the cowl on the frame and the rest of the body came together great. the bodys back in one peice and the doors open and close better then they did in 29

small update.... Im stuck at findin a motor. ive been hittin the web pretty hard tryin to find a early hemi. no real luck yet. i found a whole 55 new yorker, runs and drives for $2000. but i know if i buy it ill drive it and not take the motor out. ive also been hittin the junk yards around my area. nothing so far has turned up.

i had a chance 10-15years ago to have as many 331/354 industrial hemi's as i wanted for free. back then my father told me there was no use for them, and you couldnt bolt a car tranny to them. i know now you can. im talkin 30-40 of them brand new in metal crates, never run. they were at a airplane warehoure 3 block from my house. they were indoors there whole life. it makes me sick now thinkin about how i watched them all be scrapped.

as for the car i was cleaning up the garage today and had some parts i pulled from the junkyard. i just had to try them........

WOW...that is one good find there for waiting a whole year to find the right one, I know the feeling there on the wait. Was wondering how long it took ya to re do the cowl, because I might have to it to my '29 model A when I get it here, and was wondering what you did with the 350/350.

Neat car and great fab skills on your part. Was the rear end really mounted with the panhard bar right on top of the center section or is that an optical illusion?

Your project is lookin good
These ole rose petal cars are a little bit of a pain to work on, until all the wood is replaced.

We are back on track. Finally found a motor tranny combo for the car. 75 BB 400/727 from a Newport. 54k org miles, and came with everything! Driveshaft, steering colum and keys, carb to pan... All for $300

Still want a hemi but couldn't pass this deal up. And I can finally get this car on the road and enjoy it. Down the road I can always swap to a hemi when I find on

I'll be at the car show in ocmd all weekend. But Monday the car comes back into the garage for some frame mods. I took the measuring tape and it looks like is goin to fit very nice. The tail of the tranny will be just ahead of mid door.

Got some work done on the frame. Front is now z'd and next I'm goin to set the motor in place. Pics will come. I'm tryin to work on it alil bit everyday
