Added the 1x2x 1/8' center crossmember structure or X member, I may add a couple more cross pieces in the middle yet. The booster / master gets in the way of duplicating the front end of the lower bar, but it's not a major loss of strength. Once the driveshaft is in and I can see the clearance, I'll add another cross piece to join the lower rails in the center.
I picked up the front mounts of the 4 link to tie them to it as well.
Made mounts for the shocks and an other crossmember tocarry the top mounts for them - tomorrow the plan is to make the bag mounts behind the axle.

If by planning, you mean laying awake at night building it in my head, then yes. Oh, and sneaking out in the garage at nite to stare at it and solve problems, having trouble concentrating on everyday tasks due to hot rod day dreaming [S, plus getting grumpy when the wife wants me to do un-car related errands
I think it may be an obsession........

Wow! That describes me word for word. :)

Got the rear bags mounted and added some crossmembers in the center, swept the snow and rolled it out for some daylight pics. Brough in the body (under the blue tarp) and put it back on to get a look at how to mount the front sheet metal.

I want to mock up the front sheet metal so that means I had to bring the grille shell back from the dead... What a mess !! It was in 3 pieces and mangled - got it sort of ironed out and tacked together - another hour or so welding grinding and hammering and it won't look too bad. I thought at first it had a chrome trim on the edge but what they did was chrome the entire shell, then painted all but the edge of the opening.

looks great zz, very impressive work.

it might be the pic, but the oil filter looks like it just cleared.

i assume your using the same spring bushings for the 4 link? what size/ type bolt are you using for the adjusters?

Thanks Deerchopper ! Actually, it's the pic, lot of room for the filter.:D Yes, same bushings, the bolts are 4 1/2" x 9/16" grade 8 - the bushings measure out at 3" wide but once the mount plates, washers and lock washers are added, they are just the right length. For the engine mounts, I shortened them a bit to match the width of the mount boss on the block.

zz,

i ment your adjustment for your rear 4 link.

yea it was the pic, you have tons of room

Oh, right - the adjuster bolts are 3" x 1" NF grade 8, they had the longest threaded section I found. I've also used 3/4" bolts a couple times and they are plenty strong too, same as I did on my Black Rat 55 project (see pic)

That is a great looking, and well thought out frame. I'm really enjoying following along on this build. [P

I dunno....it looks like a stiff breeze will blow that thing over.

(I can't do it...couldn't even keep a straight face typing it!)

Great job, ZZ!

Do you have any concerns about the strength of the bent link bracket or plans to gusset it? (It might be my inner 4x4 coming out here & strength might not be an issue in this application). Very clean, btw...unsupported bends in suspension just scare my web-fabbin' self.

Yes, I'm going to gusset those brackets, they're just tacked in at this point, when I take it apart farther along in the build, all that stuff will get addressed. Thanks for your input tho, always looking for insight and others perspectives on my work.

Roughly mocked up the front end and rolled it outside for some inspiration pics. It's put together a bit cockeyed ( vise grips and coathangers !!:D) but it gives a peek at how long the beak is on this baby.

HOLLYHECKABOB [dr[cl That thing is gonna be the coolest machine on the street. So now I have to ask you, is this one gonna be a keeper or what. Personally I couldn't see letting this one go down the road.

Well, the intention from the beginning has been to pass it on once finished, but I have a feeling that once my wife gets to cruise in it she'll say, no way ! :) However, that's a long way off so I've got lots of play time before making the decision.
