I've used both 2 X 4 .120 wall and 2 X 3 .120 wall. Depends on lenght, engine/tranny weight etc. Make sure install some type of K member to help your rigidity

what kinda of rear end should i use guys? should i just use a ford 9 inch rear?
also i called a junk yard and they have rears a plenty, but what type of car/truck and year should i ask for? thanks again for all your help. will post new picture updates soon.

New welder

guys im looking into a new welder but im pressed on cash. i found this Eastwood MIG welder. its 110VAC/ 135 A output. it can weld 24-ga. to 1/4"
its going for $299.00 with free shipping.[;)

Is this a good deal? will it be strong enough to weld box tubing:

2x3 120. wall
2x3 125. wall

2x4 120. wall
2x4 125. wall

i have a little cheap welder right now but there is no way it will be able to handle welding the frame together.

I think the 4" tubing looks better and of course it is stiffer. Not much of a welder myself but i think you would soon be wishing you had gotten a 220.
As long as the axle is wide enough an inch or two won't make much difference.
Helps to know what wheels you will be using. Personally i am feeling the low as possible look has been played out. I would like to see a highboy once in a while but i will be in the minority with that opinion. :)

Wolf, I think you really need the 220v welder ,especially for a frame and gussets. Body mounbts and other stuff would be fine, but you really need to get full penetration on the frame welds, and a 110v welder just isn't hot enough.JMO

Well i've decided to go ahead and get a 220V, im looking at an Eastwood 175 mig welder. it is 220V 175 amp and it says it can weld from 24-ga. to 5\16th"

so i hope this one will do. please let me know what you guys think. the price is a little more but hey i got to have the 220V.

here is a link to the welder:

thanks again guys for all your help and input, it really does help.
also some new update pics, im working on cleaning up the firewall.
