I think the best thing about the interweb is the free and open exchange of advice and information that's now available...

It's great that you have such an awesome mentor there, someone who's taken interest and helped you to build your vision.

I've come to the conclusion that, while there can be flaming and backbiting, I truly believe that tinkering with old wheeled **** truly brings out the best qualities of human nature... It's like opening your garage doors to a couple thousand eager fellow car guys and you don't even have to bring a case of beer for advice!

i took it on a bumpy county road

2 observations.
1 i didnt notice any bumpsteer
2 this thing WILL get on it!

all the car needs to be legal is a windshield and front turn indicators.
the next time you see it it will be being driven.

i still have lots of cosmetic work to do on it.
grinding all those welds and bondo and paint
insulate and sound deaden the cab
put door panels in
make a wood bed for it.
side windows
lots and lots of stuff.
but being able to legally drive it into my garage so i can pretty it up.
is a HUGE ground breaking achievment to me.

we have the same engine /tranny combo in 12 passenger vans at work.
they will just barely chirp the tires on take off.

this is the cheapest system you may ever see.
thrush glasspacks $22 each
flexi-hose about 8 bucks
handful of clamps
and some pipe we had laying around.

i am 5.9 140 lbs.
and it is TIGHT in that cab.
i am having to put the gas pedal on the firewall above the tranny hump.
14" steering wheel.
thinnest/smallest seats i could find.
i dont think my fiance is going to be able to drive it. (big boobs)
in hindsight i would have made the rear of the cab longer.
but on the good side.
at 49 years old i aint gonna grow any more.

when i started trying out seats i realized just how tiny that damn truck is.
if i was any bigger.
i'd have to sell it.
my next build will be built around a normal sized human.
live and learn.

you are not gonna believe this
but i just realized i am going to have to drive it like a stock car.
i freakin cant believe it never even crossed my mind.
the cowl is so narrow that the brake is on the left side of the steering column and the gas is on the tranny hump.
left foot brake
right gas.
this is gonna take some getting used to.

My 30 was so small that I couldnt fit in it without removing the steering wheel. Im 6'5 and 240lbs. Thats the main reason I sold it. More time to work on the IHC. And as for braking with one foot and gassing with another....easier for burnouts!

my sweetie WILL hafta take the wheel off. (it's that boob thing)
but to quote her when i taught her to drive my antique willys jeep

her- im never gonna fit in that thing!

Confession time

my buddy J.P. of the HENCHMEN C.C. has done all the work (so far) on this build.
he has been building/racing cars for almost 50 years.
i met him a few years ago and we hit it off.
one day i told him he had some of the coolest cars i had ever seen.
he says
we should build you one.
he charged me $15 an hour to handbuild me a car.

you see fellas
i am a parts replacer.
i sure as hell aint no fabricator/mechanic/hotrod genius.

the reason he did it so cheaply is simple.
he just loves to build rods.
but he couldnt afford to build another one for himself.
monday he is delivering my car to me
and has already started on a 39 chevy p/u for himself....
