i wanted to pick ya'lls brains. i bought a 2nd series 1955 chevy truck to put a 5.3 v8 in. my question is, have any one of you rat rodders ever tried this. i have talked with a guy that has put a corvette z06 motor in a 1966 chevelle and he said the wiring would be a breeze because of PAINLESS WIRING. i was more concered with motor mounts and what trannys will work with this. any encouragement and ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks, lustforrust

I picked up a 2003 5.3 to put in my 35 ford truck i was going to use edelbrocks carb kit for it http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-2908/ it is about the same price as painless wirring's ls1 harness.here is the motor mount adapters http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=ls1%20motor%20mount&dds=1 You can use any chevy trans, the bellhousing is the same except for the upper passenger side hole is missing on the block so you leave that hole empty on the tranny. Also you need a small crank/flexplate adapter to run an older automatic http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HUP-HP3795/

thanks joeyp. thats why i ask you guys that have done this before. i thought of using the fuel injection that came with the motor but if it is alot of trouble or money, i will probably use the manifold with a carburator. thanks again

If you want to go a little more old school on the LS series motors GM has a new timing cover that has a provision for a distributor, It uses a standard SBF distributor http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-88958679/ with this you don't even need the coil packs or the electronic controller just get the intake without all the other stuff. The best part about these motors is the amazing amount of power they produce. With a cam, intake and good exhaust they are making somewhere in the 450hp range.

Funny this topic comes up. We just did an alignment on a 52 chev pickup that had a 5.3 out of silverado. He had a nova sub-frame in it also. Fit and looked good. He got the engine and wiring harness out of a 03 pickup in a salvage yard, low miles too. Seems like a pretty good idea for a conversion.

I got my 5.3 off of craigslist. I paid $250 and it had 48,000 miles on it and it came with everything but the alternator and intake.

does anyone know how the wiring from the stock ap would work?

i got a friend who wants to put an 03 silverado in his 68 p/u.

just wondering if anybody has any wiring diagrams or links.

We have had a couple of trucks with the 5.3 come in with broken valve springs and the intake melted on that cylinder because the exhaust was pushed back up in the intake. Found out from a couple of dealerships that it's fairly common. Just wanted to give y'all a heads up on them.
