I am working on a Rat Rod project. I did not have anything to begin with but knew what I wanted when I was finished. I could not find or afford an original cowl. so in Ratting Style I cut up a wheelbarrow and made some parts. the rest is steel tube and sheet then covered in wood.

Is the front axle mounted solid to the frame?

Do what you want with the body just make sure the important go, stop, and steer parts are in working order

It looks to me like in pic 9 there is suspension under it in the front. I bet the clamps were for mockup.
Needs some reinforcement on that spring bracket though

your right it has front suspension was a mock up to get rolling had to keep it rolling around and your right I gotta brace the spring bracket put on panhard bar and brackets and shocks yet. Its still in Progress but Getting close.

It goes and Stops almost as Fast. 11in discs on front and 10 inch disc on rear. It turns well and rides smooth so far but need the shocks on front and the panhard bar and some braces before I take it anywhere on the road. I Built Race cars for 10 years before I got into Rats. Its gotta go stop and turn before I worry about what looks like. Gotta Be Safe!!

I am impressed by guys that start with a pile of old parts and create a running driving machine. Nice work on yours. My brother lives in Eudora. Maybe he can hook a ride with you someday.

I'm thinking you have a high powered Chevy truck. Maybe post some pics of it too,eh?

Very cool your getting it safe and drivable first. Good use of a wheelbarrow for the firewall - looks pretty good. I like how the rear wheels set so far back in that 4th pic and the top.

Yes I did make the disc brake mounts myself. I had the wheels with a ford bolt pattern. I wanted to use them the frant axle is 50's chevy truck. the kit was like 240$ plus. and then to have the spindles machined. I could not afford that so I went to u pick it and got the hubs off a cordoba. made my own spacer shim for the bearing. the calipers are off 76 Camaro. they were
13$ at Advance. the brackets are 2 inch strap I drilled and then tacked a 7/16 fine nut to. they work awesome. I step on the peddle it wants to stop like right now. the Rear end is out of an Izusu trooper. It has electric locker in it and 4.56 gears. has a 3 link and 10in discs on rear. I traded whole setup for a brake job. links driveshaft and all. It has a 16 gauge and 1x1 tube underskin. gotta have some safety side windows and back are to be lexan. and when all Done the The wood is to be all Burnt Black. with Flames on the doors.
