Ford Ranger 4 banner head???

Somebody once told me that these Ranger 4 bangers were popular down south and people used them for dirt tracking. He told me someone made a high performance head for these motors and it bumped them up to 200 horse. Anybody ever heard about a company like that?

Probably Esslinger.

The 2500 Ranger motor is basically the same as the 2300,
which first appeared in Pintos.

Ford pumped 200 out of them from the factory in the SVO and turbo coupe.

The one I have is a turbo, carbed motor. I don't know what year it is or much about it, but the link above looks promising.

With a little machine work, the pintos could pop out 220 hp. (or soo I have been told)

I had a '79 Mustang turbo four. With the hose to the wastegate blocked, it made 12# boost, it thought it was a 5.0! Till it went bang.Sniff.

When I was racing roundy round, those 4 banger mustangs were turning as fast of times as the 383 Monte Carlos. The still sound like mad bees tho.

dont know what you are looking to do but you can make big power from a 2300 by just a little port and polish, solid lifters, springs, 3 angle valve job on 194 valves, cut down head, johnsons cam on a d-port head.


Esslinger is a sponcer and makes a great roller head but if you dont have the $$$ you can have it done cheap yourself.

Speedway motors in there race dept sells 2.3 hop up parts also.

Friend of mine had a stock 2300 Turbo in a T-Bird.

It was a SLOW under powered barge.
