I have a flathead that ran great before I pulled it and it is in my current project, the car it came out of had a 12V battery and I drove it. How can I check the generator to confirm it is 12v?

this is how i tested mine, mount it in a vise get a belt and rig a pulley to a drill to spin it, take a voltage tester and while its spinning touch the positive to the field terminal and the ground to the body, just over 6.0 volts is a 6 volt gen 11 or more is a 12 volt, this worked on my gm, its a trick my grampa showed me 15 or so years ago, i'm sure napa or some one could check it on an alternator testing machine just have to find someone with some intel. hope this helps dp1

They are also generally stamped on the body somewhere as to what voltage they are........volts and amps.
