Kaikoura Hop

crikey ! so i had friday off work the change the gearbox oil and pull the the carb, based on the theory that the primary butterflies might loose ( all 4 screws were !! ), yesterday took the stude on a 4 hr drive to the 'Hop".

first pic is 2 cranes still doing remedial work on the coast road after the big earthquake we had here a couple of years back..

talking to a buddy of mine , he had heard somewhere like 2000 cars had taken part in the show and around 1200 more had come with there owners to look ...

my first time to this event , is held over 4 days,, apparently this was the biggest yet,, think ill do the 4 days next year ... loved the brown chevy, the purple split window was super cool

went with my daugher and her lil black Pug dog,, while were crusing the trade stalls some chap came running up excusing himself several times,,, he wanted to proposition Diego on behalf of his female pug .. so a partial arrangement has been made for Pug martial bliss ... things ya do

one of the really cool things was there were alot of local residents of all ages sitting on deck chairs or even the ground, backs of pick ups, or sitting in open air cafes, with outdoor tables , some had beer some had no drinks, there was a car parked on the side of the road with " do burnouts here" letters big enough to cover the windscreen... people waved , and the drunker ones even cheered while crusing round ..

ive never experienced such car wild behavior HUGE local support

Slow Ride T used to have a 6/71 on it that was 25+ yrs ago, my daughter fell asleep on the start line of a local drag event with it whizzing .. really nice black mustang i parked the stude next to ,,, and very cool Hemi A

parked in the main street to get a very welcome coffee.. cars were just cruising all over huge atmoshere...

after taking the mountain pic i wandered to off to take a pic the lone compact.. chatted with owner for a bit , then several other compacts showed up for a group photo.. one of i knew .. we were all chatting away happily , the a local lad appeared in his v8 holden commodore (australian think is your pontiac? ) anyway launched into this huge burnout our admiration turned into laughter (i know Karma will get us !) when the law appeared out of the side street opposite ,, the holde driver driver was then invited to sit in to patrol car .... made for good tv!!

will let youse know in February what the Hanmer Motorfest is like ,, and maybe the Whangamata beach is like too in easter if i can stop spending $$ on the car long enough to save...



then the journey home .. an hour + away from home in the middle of nowhere land and i still cant remember the last house i saw... the battery gave out .. bout 8.30 at night here even some main roads can be eerily quiet for ages .. i rung my son to plan a rescue, when a car stopped to help .. we swapped batteries and follwed them running parklights .. till we got to my place swapped them back and the couple left .. they wanted nothing for their help save to say if i saw a broken down person i should pay them back that way ...

totally wow'd me and totally grateful! there are some good people in the world !
