So this morning I get a message from someone who doesn't seem to be havin' a very good day but I got a good laugh anyway... hahaha!!! [ddd[ddd[ddd

Thank you for the birthday greeting....but I must be honest with you: I think rat rods represent what is wrong with modern america.....no class, poor design, often unsafe, built on the cheap, no appreciation for engineering excellence or mechanical excellence.

Rat rods suck. There, I said it.

Have a nice day.

Wasn't me !!!!! :D So, the question is, if he detests everything about rats, what is he doing on here ? Last I knew there were no bars on the windows.

I guess midlife crisis just hit him the wrong way. :D

I often think street rods represent what is wrong with modern America.
No originality due to fear of not conforming. Paying pros to assemble receipe cars out of designer label parts instead of personal handcrafting at whatever skill level that may be.

There was a big motorhome pulling a probuilt streetrod still on the trailor parked inline with the other cars at the Louisville nationals. The owner wasn't even into it enough to unload it. Had a big screen tv in the side compartment where he sat under the rollout awning and watched other people live. Must have been the envy of all the other streetrodders.

Unfortunately some people join and lurk on forums just to be annoying, wish I had that much spare time.
I still wish him a happy birthday and hopefully he'll calm down and begin to appreciate the finer things in life and stop being a grumpy sod.:D

Let's just pick this apart for a minute..

1. Rat Rods exist everywhere, not just America. There are members from around the world on this forum.

2. Class? Or does he mean be a sheeple or a lemming and 'Stay in line boy'. Defiance, rebellion, individuality, and the freedom of expression, that is what America is about.

3. Grant it, there are some disasters rolling on the roads or being constructed, but forums such as this have myriads of examples of 'proper builds'. The ratio of fail classic restorations and customs equals the ratio of bad rat rod builds.

4. Cheap? Yeah, try selling your resto mod in today's economy and make a profit, no less even just recoup your investment.

5. Appreciation for engineering excellence? I don't really appreciate all the 'clone classics'. Like the ones trying to pass off as a '69 SS Chevelle' that was originally just a Malibu with a 307 and a powerglide.

I appreciate all forms automotive style and classes, be it street or racing and admire all the effort and ingenuity involved. But I'm not obligated to make my personal vehicle conform to someone else's expectations, it's a rattle can and it's all mine.
