Hey Flipper!
I really like your "aft cockpit" concept. The hood lines would be easy enough to extend aftward. I suppose I could make the doors either non functional and just panel the sides as a convertible or maybe move them back like this. it'd be cool to rebuild the top as a removable...
I conceded to a buddy of mine that told me, ". . .wanting to build a rat rod and put thousands of hours into a silly car" was a "foolish idea I just need to just get out of my head".
I told my wife Wednesday night that I would first rebuild the burned up engine in the old 325IS… Then if after...
Thanks Old Iron…
but, how I got to this page…

just shows that you can get on the wrong track even if everything does work together…
In all seriousness, if nothing else this thread has made me consider a...
Several people have mentioned committing to less than compatible drive train components. Evidently it's easy enough to do if more than one person has done it. So how do you avoid the pitfalls and insure the junk you acquire is going to work well together? If a build starts with a dual...
Wow… I am sorry Soltz and IAM.
I've been around an awful lot of forums on a whole bunch of different subjects. In other words, "this ain't my first rodeo." I really don't have any attitude. Just trying to kid a little... Sorry if you think I came off that way, it happens on forums where...
Here's a 2 part epoxy product from the aerospace world called Proseal. I've used it before to seal riveted construction aluminum aircraft tanks as they are being assembled as well as for leak repair on existing tanks.

Wait a min…. I'm not looking for theory or good advice here…. I'm looking for real life stories of how YOU screwed up in the construction or operation of a car you built. ;)
I don't care about "saving money" or advice to "measure twice and cut once" or any of that feel good stuff…
I want...
Hmm… right after finding and purchasing the "right" body, I was thinking the entire car needs to be designed from the rear end, then suspension and finally frame forward. Good to know!
If you've ever raised boys, you know that giving them a pocket knife or a hammer will result in them carving or hammering something… Well Since I've found this site I'm that boy with the hammer. I can't wait to start on my first true rat. I'm moving slowly on acquiring a project, mostly...
I'm hardly an expert, but personally? I like the comparatively square and straight lines you've got going there compared to that "broke in the middle" look too many people try. Any Idea what the stock layback on the grill shell was? There too I tend to like the looks of them a little less...
OK. I think I have come to terms with the seller, who HAS the title for the 1939 Pontiac Deluxe. I've got a roll-back owning buddy committed to helping move her to my shop. Once again paralysis has set in. The restored stockers I see for sale on line for $16-20K...just aren't that cool…
Now...
No… The Pontiac is only $1800. The $3500 price is for the late 30's A-model on page one of this thread. Problem is I'll have to have the Pontiac flat-bedded home for a few hundred bucks
