Lead Sled? Rat Truck? What the hell is it?

Thanks guys, yeah there are big smiles all around when cruising in the El Combino! It's hard not to grin driving something as unique as this. The plan from here is to get it legal, replace the water pump and valve cover gasket then just drive the tires off it. Hopefully we can get it into a...

Lead Sled? Rat Truck? What the hell is it?

This morning the wife and I went to work on the interior. There was a lot of nasty stuff going on, so we tore out the homemade headliner, pulled off the 2 seat covers and the bed sheet that was stretched over the bench, then drove down to the local car wash and vacuumed out the interior. We...

Lead Sled? Rat Truck? What the hell is it?

Well, it's been awhile since I've updated this... it's not that I haven't had anything to add, but more that there hasn't been much to report over the last couple months. Between the long winter, the cold garage and having too much on my plate, the car has just sat in the garage. I finally...

    Another kind of build

Hey Jeff, not sure how hard it is to find a balancer for a 351, but this may be an option- http://westslope.craigslist.org/pts/1600548692.html BTW, great work on the progress!

Lead Sled? Rat Truck? What the hell is it?

I'll have to do some searching, I thought it was from the Chevy truck the bed would have come from, but haven't done any comparing yet. Thanks for the info!

Lead Sled? Rat Truck? What the hell is it?

Glad you guys liked the video, I was pretty excited to get it running! Now to iron out the rest of the issues, one thing at a time. I filled the radiator with antifreeze and put 5 gallons of gas in the tank today and started it again on starting fluid, until the gas was pumped up to the carb...

1953 Chevy, no spark, new coil

I'm not scared... :p The points were stuck closed! I picked up a new condenser and a new set of points from NAPA, but before I pulled the old ones out, I started playing with them. At first the points wouldn't open, they were stuck or rusted closed, but a little prying with a screwdriver and...

Lead Sled? Rat Truck? What the hell is it?

I'll work on getting some updated photos tomorrow. I did get some fun parts from the UPS guy the other night... a pair of fender skirts from a Bel Air that I found on EBay for $50. They were painted black, but underneath that is some paint that looks like it may match the current paint job...

1953 Chevy, no spark, new coil

Hummmm.... interesting thought. I'll have to do some searching, I suppose it's possible. I installed the new battery same as the old, and connected the coil wires as they were. I haven't changed the wiring from how it was.

1953 Chevy, no spark, new coil

That's what I was wondering... I crawled under the dash and have 4 terminals on the back side of the ignition switch that I ground out together and turned over the engine, but I wasn't able to do that and check for spark under the hood at the same time. I did have everything together under the...

1953 Chevy, no spark, new coil

I had the same thought, perhaps the car quit running at one point & the previous owner did & quick & dirty tuneup to try get it running, with no luck. Excellent idea about the distributor shaft turning Bob! I did check it and the shaft does turn as the engine is cranked over. :( I have power...
