Most chargers have a switch that allows 6 or 12 volt, some trickle chargers don't. In that case hook up cables pos to pos and neg to neg. It would have both a 6 and 12 volt scale on the same gauge to see what the amps are. Don't charge the battery in a closed space, and no ignition source. Sparks, pilot lights etc. Batteries give off hydrogen gas when charging, makes for a huge bang (explosion) when it goes off.
