His autobiography is an interesting read, really sheds some light on the politics inside of Ford and Chrysler. It's been a long time since I read it, so I think it's due for a refresh.
In 1964, when Lee Iacocca said, 'Shelby, I want you to make a sports car out of the Mustang,' the first thing I said was, 'Lee, you can't make a race horse out of a mule. I don't want to do it.' He said, 'I didn't ask you to make it; you work for me.' Carroll Shelby
He not only gave Ford their best selling car ever, he helped create some of the best Ford race cars ever, too. And he saved Chrysler from bankruptcy with the K Car and then the Mini Vans, and don't forget the Viper was his baby, too.
Growing up in the Detroit area people like him and HF2nd where household names.
Every one talks about the Mustang and the Mini vans but he was also instrumental in the development of the Mercury Cougar.
One of the last of the titans.....
Torchie
I always thought that one of the best tributes to Iacocca was when someone said "one of the 'real car guys' in the car business".
Thank you Lee, for everything.
