I am sure this is going to be like an oxymoran question here.

I was wondering if any of you have installed AC in your rats or hot rods?

Asking on a day where it's like 95 plus degrees here in South Florida....

:D

I know what you mean about the heat........we are in for one hot summer, I think. AC would be nice in a closed car and I will probably do that to the 46 when I build it. Otherwise it makes a person not want to take their rod out except at night. I got in my daily the other day and couldn't touch anything in the car. The seat belt buckle, shifter, ignition, etc were all so hot I had to use a Kleenex to touch them.

Some of the newer street rod ac units are so small they fit an early car well. The lines are still a little noticeable, but so what.

Call me hardcore but I say no and I'm in SC, no stranger to heat and humidity.
I won't even use the a/c in my daily driver. I hate when the compressor kicks in and I feel that sudden loss of power in my big 3.8. Besides that my Blue bird is midnight blue and I block of dry ice wouldn't cool that interior before I got home.

My 429 project is not going to have a/c but I am going to peel and seal every part of that cab I can reach. :D

Just my 2.5 cents worth....it's your ride so do what suits you. ;)

Yes... I have A/C!!! Er... by Mother Nature! :D:D:D

I don't have it but wish I did. I really could have enjoyed it this past weekend...mid to upper 90's between Memphis and Bowling Green. I thought I was going to melt.

One of the problems other than cost, is that the car/truck needs to be sealed up rather well and insulated to keep the cold air inside the truck and the hot outside air on the outside.

One of the other issues is what an AC looks like. On a bare bones rod, it's hard to hide/make look good.

Yeah I hear you about Mother Nature - but I have to tell you - she isn't so kind to us this time of year down here. There are times that I would want to drive a hot rod or even ride my chopper somewhere to go have some fun - but hate how I would feel by the time I would get there. Just soaking wet and crappy. Chopper not so bad - but still gives a beating in this heat.

So for a car - man I want to have something that makes me want to drive it - ALOT. And the heat is an issue down here. No way to get around it.

I figured there are systems for street rods that are small enough now - that make it easier to hide etc.

Who knows.... Just saying - it's freaking hot - and makes it unpleasant to drive in....

Depending on what you are driving I always liked the look of the swamp coolers. Yeah you have to wet them down but less work and less cash than A/C.

AC

Oh well....another opinion. I have an under dash unit from a 65 Mustang that is going in my 56. It's faded, skinned and the plastic vents are wavey from the heat. It matches my truck and looks "ratty". I love it! Its hard for me to be cool if I ain't cool. LOL
