53 Pontiac grille

hey you all!! I got a 53 Poncho with most of the grille down to the nickel/copper plating. Anyone have a mostly chrome grille OR can I buff or polish the nickel/copper to be a little more shiny?
Someone painted the whole thing black. Looked like S#&t.

Did they just paint over it? Aluminum foil and diet coke can remove paint without damaging the chrome underneath[S
