Axle narrowing

Recently I bought a mittler bros axle narrowing jig. The 53 Ford pickup I have been working on needs to have the rear end narrowed and the guy I would normally have do that work is swamped and kind of getting out of narrowing axles. He's busy enough with his driveline stuff. My dad also needs one narrowed and I figured I would probably drown up some more business with it anyway.

So today we tore the rear axle out of the truck measured up what we needed to narrow it. I had ordered universal long splined axles from speedway and a set of Moser well done bearing cups.

Was kind of nervous at first just cuz it's the first one I've done. I got one side done tonight here are a couple pictures and a short 60 second video showing the highlights

Mine came from Leadmine products.
After you narrow the first one it's no big deal.
Get one of these aluminum blocks, you'll thank yourself.

I've often wondered how that was done. (I was imagining cutting and welding the axles while in a lathe.)

What's crazy is how far out of alignment the axles are right from the factories.

Sure is fun to learn new things. I tend to confuse fear of the unknown with something being difficult and it usually isn't once I dive it.
