Wb3, The Matador was the base trim Dodge for 1960. Total production for the Polara/Matador line was 42,517. Of that 23,600 were Matador passenger cars 2 and 4 door. Standard engine 361 C.I. at 295 Hp. Could be upgraded to a 383 C.I. at 325 Hp. one four barrel or 330 Hp. with two fours. Hope this helps.

What's in a name?

I know of a guy who has a shop that specializes in late 50s early 60s Chrysler products - including Matador, Phoenix, Sierra and Suburban wagons, as well as the usual Dart, Coronet, Polara, and Fury nameplates. Chrysler Corp was scrambling to find lost sales, but it took a while - those new nameplates vanished for 1962, along with the fins of the previous year, to be replaced by numbers. Crazy stuff.

Those cars are love 'em or hate 'em. The style is definitely unique.
