looking for model a pick up roadster build thread

Don, that thing looks great! I was just contemplating doing something similar with a '30 cowl and doors I've got out in the garage. Any info. on the build of that one? Jay

    '50 GMC Daily Driver

Wow! I can't believe I just stumbled across this thread for the first time. That's some really quick progress. You also know it's good when just reading about what's being done is getting me fired up to get out there into my garage and working on my projects. Also living in MN I can tell you...

camaro rear axle on a 53 dodge pickup - where to begin?

Some people end up using a combination of many of the methods you listed... I guess to establish the best 'game plan' we'd need to know how much you plan on lowering the vehicle. I had a 1950 Dodge 1/2 ton truck. I was able to lower it a an inch or two in the rear just by removing the "helper"...

    49 ford

Sweet project! I was fighting an ongoing problem with my '39 most of the summer and I was really starting to think about unloading it. I was really thinking about picking up a '49-'51 Ford. I even changed the 'wallpaper' on my computer to a picture of a nice '50. GREAT potential with that car-...

where to get 53 dodge pickup brake drums?

When I had my 1950 Dodge 1/2 ton I re-did all of the brakes. I was able to find parts at Roberts Motor Parts on the web. I can't remember if they had drums or not tho'. Eventually I ended up converting the front brakes to disc from a company called AAJ Brakes online. It was pretty easy to do...

Why do we cover our lic plates in pics?

I used to not cover mine- then everyone I know convinced me I was asking for trouble. I guess in my case I enjoy writing the occasional detailed 'build' or 'progress' report. I like to put in as many details as possible but have been hesitant to include prices of things. I guess if someone...

    License Plate Re-furb?

A freind of mine just did this recently. He used a roller to go over the tops of the numbers. I don't think he was too patient with it and the results were so-so, lots of tiny bubbles in the paint. I wonder how well one of those hard bristled stencil type brushes might work? With that you dip...

whats the best manual tranny for a flathead?

If you're looking for an entire vehicle to buy as a "donor" I'd look for an S-10. A guy in the club just bought a running (but very rusty) 1988 S-10 Blazer for $100 to mount his 1950 Willys truck body on. It didn't have the manual transmission in his case but I'd bet you could find one that...

    Vapor Lock cure

Racer 32, so you used both pumps? I've heard of people going to the electric pump but I thought they usually took out the mechanical pump at that time. Cycledog- he is right though. I had this problem with a Nova I used to own and putting the electric pump in fixed it right away. A place...

Gear Drive Speed and Custom Specialties

Although I haven't met him personally I have only heard good things about Matt and his company. He is in a local car club, the Lucky *******s. They put on a very good, well repsected traditional rod show every year- The Minneapolis Messaround. The guys in the club I've met are all really good...

    LMC Truck

I've ordered from LMC a few times for my 55 F100. One order I received was incomplete because a couple of the parts were on back order. I wish I would have known that ahead of time but I placed the order online so I didn't really talk to anyone that could have told me. The back-ordered parts...

    bomber seats why

I think it's to evoke an early racer feel. No padding = less weight. Less weight = faster times. Also it seems like a lot of cars are designed with a lot of WW2 aeronautical influnces. Jay

Anyone in Minneapolis looking for a cab??

As of this evening the posting has been deleted. Hopefully it went to a good home (garage:)). Jay

door locks on pass. side only. why?

I've been noticing that here at the shop also. LOTS of newer cars don't have a passenger lock anymore. Thanks for asking, "NN". I've always wondered that too. People used to just see the one lock on my truck and ask me the same question and I always had to say I didn't know. These answers...

    discovering rods in your neighborhood?

I was driving my Effie home the other night. When I pulled into the garage I looked in the rear view and there was a guy on a bike standing behind my truck. I thought, "Great- who's this turkey that wants to poke around my garage?" I got out and he started checking out the truck and my '39...

Please help me value this barn find.

I'd agree with 35Mastr more so on the price. Around here (Minnesota) trucks like that get drug out of old farms and brought to swap meets all the time. Typically they tend to go around $3000- if they're complete and fairly solid. Jay

    Help me ID these cowls??????

Upon closer inspection I am wrong. Althouh the firewall in the first picture looks like my Chevy cowls yours is missing the raised lip on the side like your second one has. My Chevy ones look like a combination of the two you have so I'm not really sure exactly what you've got. Here's a picture...

    Just some car show pics

Gorgeous! Wonderful! The weather even more so than the cars!:D We got about another 5 inches of snow here in MPLS this week- I don't think it's ever going to end. It already feels like the longest last couple weeks of winter since I got that '39 and have only taken it out on ONE 15 minute...
