Scratch Frame.

i wish i could build my own frame. but i have no clue on how to do that lol my dad was saying it would be hard to do with out a frame jigg.?? so ill be useing my old frame to z. what would be the better route? and im trying to keep the cost down clost to nothing.

thanks on the chop i just been winging it i never done anythiong like this:D it sure is fun and i do learn alot from this site!

I've done them both ways with normal hand tools and a fairly level garage floor. The rule is measure twice, check it with the level, weld it.check it again.
I did my frame in 3 sections, under cab, rear, front. As long as you have some long steel to clamp to to hold stuff straight.[;) I bought all my steel for $150 bucks from Wheeler Metal in 20' lengths,Bought some good Sawzall blades and 71/4" blades for the skill saw.

had the same prob with my window frames! I was gonna tell you to cut the top off then split the top and see how much to take out. Idid the same as you probably did by chopping out the same amount as the a and b pillars without checking it first. to fix mine i took the pieces I cut out out the frame and cut thin strips out to weld back and fill in the gap.

yep thats what i did wrong. but thanks for the good thought ill be just filling the gap in the a pillar with what i alrady cut out of it. thanks bro:cool:

Keep at it, you have made good progress so far! Make sure you grt plenty of practice welding before taking on anything structural like the frame.

I'd go about a 5" Z

wow yea thats low. but looks bad to the bone. did you have any pics on how you did yours. thanks bro:D

Here are the pics of the frame if they will help

I started out by setting the cab on the floor and running my tubing under the cab until I had the length in the front that I wanted then marked the tubing in the rear for my rear kick up and for the front Z I just used the toe boards as my guide for that

Wow, excellent fore thought & execution. I'm really starting to like the dually rear wheels. I'm gonna have to use that idea - if/when I ever start one of these.

Thanks this was the 1st frame I've built and i am pretty happy with the way it turned out but there are a few things I would do differently the next time - like have all my suspension parts be fore everything is final welded cuz my front Z was a lil too big and gave me very little ground clearance but live and learn right :)

got some goods today at the swapmeet in texas. got my grill shell and my new gas tank lol:D i got the grill shell for 30 bucks dude wanted 60 for it.;)
