I have some metal from the rear cab corners that are rounded. I plan on taking those and underlapping about an 1" on each side of the roof, and sheetmetal screw them into the roof. I will then take flat 22 gauge metal and do the same down the center trying to work the high points of the outside to the center. Then if it is still high, i will look at some relief cuts to bring the front and rear sections together......Hopefully i will start working on it this week. I still have a little bit to do on the back of the cab....

Today i finished welding up the back of the cab around the window glass and along the bottom. With that done, i moved up to the top of the cab section. What i did here was take the 4" corner pieces i cut out of the cab when i first started this chop. I cleaned them up and placed them into the curve of the cab towards the center. On each side of the cab, i set sheetmetal screws in to the cab top and the pieces i placed under the cab. On the drivers side, i did have to place a 4" pie cut do to the cab being stood on once upon a time and denting the top fairly good. Here are todays pics:

It lined up fairly well actually. Biggest problem is/was the dents on the roof from someone standing or jumping on it once upon a time. I have nothing really to show today. I fabbed up my center piece for the cab, tacked it in place and started the slow (very slow) process of welding it. Weld, and cool, weld and cool.......Once this part is done, i will take a few more pic's.

Finished up the welding across the top of the cab today. I haven't sanded the welds down yet, but here are some pics.

Looks great! I've started putting mine back together and boy the tack and grind is tiring. I've gone through a spool of wire and a tank of gas and about 3 grinding wheels! YIKES!!!

Have to say I really like the tailgate!!!! How did you write Ford in the center like that? The rest just looks like expanded steel over diamond plate, but the writing is awesome!!!

Like what?

the biggest thing i learned with the welding is, going slow. On the drivers side rear of the cab, i went pretty quick on the corner weld and found it tried to buckle the metal. I was able to tap it back in with a hammer, but had i gone slow and let it cool after each weld, i don't feel i would have had so much buckling.

I know, i had a 20# bottle and was going through 2 bottles a week. I finally spent the money and moved up to a 60# bottle. Which is empty as of last night. So if the gas shop is open today, i get to find out how much it's going to cost to fill the 60# bottle.....

I used 1/4" round rod from home depot, took a picture of the old style ford emblem from the internet and bent the rod using a torch, heat and a pair of channel locks. I used diamond plate for the main support of my tailgate and then tack welded my ford letters in place. Then took a piece of expanded metal, cut an oval in it, used some more of the 1/4" round rod, used a torch and bent it to fit into the oval of the expanded metal. Hopefully when i am done with the entire back end, the oval and letters will have a shadow box look..........
