    What was your first car?

First car was a hand me down '78 Mercedes SEL, I drove that for little under a year until it got too expensive to fix. Then I got an '81 Jeep CJ5 for $350, I bought it sight unseen on my buddy's word that it ran (his boss wanted it out of the garage. Once I got my hands on it I found out it...

    engine choices

My first thought would be a 22r out of a toyota pickup. Or a Suzuki 1.6l mated to a samurai trans(no adapter needed iirc), the samurai has a 2wd trans and a divorced t-case so you can use it in a normal car. Both of those would be reliable and neither would have enough power to twist the frame.

    Power ideas for 29 Desoto???

The answer to "what engine should I run?" is always Hemi. I'd pick up that 270 and throw a 4 speed behind for some old school cool.

    Carbon fiber VS steel

The fix is to put a few extra layers of fiber on. I make carbon fiber prosthetic feet for a living and the top 3 layers provide no structural support, they're just sacrificial in case of a ding. As for cost, well you gotta pay to play.

    off the wall engines??

I've got a model A pick up waiting for me when I get the money together and I plan on putting a 4bt in it. Love diesel anything. Supercharged Buick 3.8l v6 would also be cool.

    Customizations you don't understand

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion since I've seen plenty of people do it here, but I don't like people turning 4 doors into 2 doors. Rock the 4 door, it's more unique. Everyone has a 2 door. Besides that, I'd like to be able to fit more than passenger in my car.

    Smallest V8?

What little I've found about the tarantula intake is that it doesn't do well under 3500 rpm. I want this to be a street driven vehicle which means it'll spend most of it's time under that number. As long as I'm not looking to build crazy insane amounts of power should I me ok with it?

Any recommendations for a four banger?

Fuel injected or carbed? If fuel injected then an Ecotec, in all sorts of GM cars from the last 10 years.

    Smallest V8?

Been a while since I posted, I usually lurk and Google answers to my questions, but Google has failed me. I'm planning on building something similar to this build: http://ratrodsrule.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30220 but I'd like to build it such that I don't need the bump out in the hood to fit...

Best 4runner steering box Roadmaster build?

Don't know the ratio but the steering and suspension didn't actually change between 86 and 95. All pre-Tacoma Toyota IFS stuff is the same. Source: A few years of wheeling Toyota 4runners and Pick Ups from that era.

    fresh thinking photos

Maybe it's just me, but that suspension seems like it would ride like a boat. Not exactly what I'd want in a rod.

    Build it or scrap it!

I'd look for a 50's coe to put on the frame and drive train.

    Regrets, selling vehicles.

I had a CJ5 in high school, the PO rebuilt the straight 6 in with some go fast parts. If I put it in granny low and dropped the clutch I could pop wheelies in it and it was awesome to see girls reactions to that, especially since they were already a little freaked out by the lack of doors...

    New guy from Utah

Hey guys, I've been lurking for a while and decided to finally post up and introduce myself. So short bio, I'm a 20 yr old college sophomore studying mechanical engineering, I love motorcycles, cars, trucks, trains, planes, boats, basically anything with an engine, and if it has a lot of...

    RATS// what's your'e reason for building them?

I'm new to hot rodding, but rats are just more fun than polished cars with nice paint jobs. There's more variety and freedom. Oh, and I'm broke college student so I can't afford a super nice hot rod.
