    '41 GMC rat rod build

Hey guys, sorry that there hasn't been much progress lately. But, I worked for a few hours last night pulling the front fenders, hood, grill etc. off of the GMC. I also didn't like how the frame looked so, I cut a foot out of it to make a shorter back end. I'll post some pics soon.

    My baby is home...!!!!

I love these years of trucks. I think that you should run without the fenders. Who cares if it offends the traditionalists. It's your build. So, build it like you want. Keep at it and I look forward to seeing some progress.

    School Project!

I just read this whole thread and I must say you have great vision and follow through. I'm just a little older than you so, it's nice to know that I have some peers in this hobby/profession. Keep up the awesome work and I look forward to seeing more progress.

    A project of sorts

That's a neat idea! I have one of those laying around in my shop. I think I'll give it an acid bath and come up with something like that. Very cool!

I really like your build so far. And that grill/radiator shell design is cool. Looking good and it's giving me some ideas. Thanks!

Welcome dogpatch1, I'm also new to the rat rod scene. I opened my own shop too, back in January. It sure is different then working for the boss man. Good luck with putting up with the pushy customers and welcome again.

    '41 GMC rat rod build

'41 GMC Rat Rod Well, didn't have much time tonight to work on the project. But, I did take a big step (at least for me) and cut the frame.:D I put the drums of both the front and rear axles 12" from the ground and then cut the frame a little ways in front of the shackle brackets. I did alot of...

    '41 GMC rat rod build

With my rearview mirror I was thinking of mounting it to the dash. But, I have a ways to go before I reach that point. Do you guys have any suspension ideas? I'm trying to use the leaf spring set up 'cause it was free, but I'm open to ideas.

I really like that look. How much of a chop is that? And how hard is it to see out of. Of course, I could just use some side mirrors to back up.

    '41 GMC rat rod build

I'm planning on doing a mild chop maybe 2 or 3 inches. But, I really like the mailslot look for the back window so, it might be chopped more. I'm also going to channel it. I'm not running fenders, so if anyone wants them they're for sale. My next step in this project is to get the cab off of the...

    '41 GMC rat rod build

'41 GMC rat rod In the previous post I put a before and after pic of the frame. I also pulled off the steering box. Some genius cut the steering column, pedal and shifter in their haste to get the cab off. It didn't make me very happy, 'cause when I originally saw the truck it was all in tact...

    '41 GMC rat rod build

'41 GMC rat rod Well, I haven't done much to the project. :mad:But, I did get the front wheel bearings greased and new shocks put on the front suspension. I also stripped all the unnecessary parts off of the frame. It's now ready to be measured and cut to how I want it. Let me hear your ideas...

    '41 GMC rat rod build

Well, here are some pics of what I have to work with. So, far everything from the wheels and tires to the frame, cab and engine have been free. I have a whole bunch of other parts that I will consider using. The only thing that I need right now is a wiring kit and a grill. I'm going to use the...

Was it Dan Keller? He has a sweet old Cuda that he restored. There's actually a few of us old car buffs in Latah.
